Split is the unique 1,700 years old ancient town, with rich history and heritage. It is most known for the famous Diocletian’s Palace, the symbol of a town and also a UNESCO World Heritage site built in 305 AD.
The architecture of the city is a unique blend of different cultures that left its mark through the history.
Filming location for “Game of Thrones”
As you walk this impressive palace of a Roman emperor you can discover many other interesting heritage locations. Especially worth mentioning are Peristil, a square in the heart of the palace with the Egyptian sphinx (used to be a place for emperor public audiences) and St. Duje’s cathedral, the oldest Catholic cathedral in the world.

Beside ancient heritage, Split also offers numerous museums and galleries. You shouldn’t miss the gallery of the famous sculptor Ivan Meštrović, Archaeological museum, the Croatian Maritime Museum and others.

When you get tired, there are plenty of places for relaxation. Take a walk in the green oasis of peace – forest park Marjan hill, the lungs of the city, or Sustipan with an amazing view to the sea and the islands.
At the end of the day, take a swim at one of the beautiful city beaches. One of them, the most popular Bačvice beach with many bars and clubs, is also known as a place for nightlife fun.
